PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel alternating copolymer and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The polymer comprises at least one selected from the group consisting of repeating units represented by formulas (1) and (2), wherein a 0.5 g/100 ml methane sulfonate solution of the polymer has a reduced viscosity of 0.05-100 dl/g at 25°C.
