PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flicker suppressing device of a discharge lamp, capable of materializing a state in which flicker is not sensed by a human being without requiring adjustment of intensity of a magnetic field vector. SOLUTION: A magnetic field generated by a coil A and a coil D perpendicularly intersects the arc of the discharge lamp, a magnetic field generated by a coil B and a coil C perpendicularly intersects both of the arc of the discharge lamp and the magnetic field generated by the coil A and the coil D. The magnetic field generated by the coil A and the coil D and the magnetic field generated by the coil B and the coil C change in accordance with a SIN function and a COS function respectively. Thereby, a rotating magnetic field perpendicular to an electrode is supplied to the arc of the discharge lamp. A frequency of fluctuation of luminance is changed to a frequency whereby the human being can not detect the fluctuation by impressing a controlled rotating magnetic field vector on the arc of the discharge lamp 2, and the fluctuation of luminance of a light source is thereby suppressed so that it can not be sensed by the human being.
