PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circuit for detecting recording characteristics of an optical disk recording/reproducing device constituted so that signals are recorded in an optical disk by laser beams emitted from an optical pickup. SOLUTION: This circuit is constituted so that aβvalue is obtained by providing an automatic amplitude control circuit 7 for stabilizing amplitude of a high frequency signal in which a low-pass component is removed from an RF signal obtained from an optical detector 1 incorporated in the optical system pickup, dividing voltage of a peak level and a bottom level of the high frequency signal by a voltage division circuit 11 and comparing a level of a detection signal which is its voltage obtained by dividing output with a reference level.
