The system has a three dimensional sensor which records a predetermined area and provides digital distance signals for each point of the area. An illuminator has a row of light sources directed to the area to be illuminated. A processor system analyzes the signals from the sensor. The row of light sources generates a light stream whose intensity increases with radial distance between the light source and the sensor axis.
