PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel epoxy resin that is solid at ordinary temperature and excellent in handleability, has very low melt viscosity, exhibits excellent reactivity with a curing agent and gives a cured product excellent in flame retardancy and moisture resistance, its manufacturing method and an epoxy resin composition. SOLUTION: The epoxy resin is represented by general formula (1). The manufacturing method of the epoxy resin comprises directly hydrogenating a dihydroanthracene type epoxy resin represented by general formula (2). The epoxy resin composition comprises the epoxy resin and a curing agent for the epoxy resin.
