PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack type optical transmission apparatus which can realize appropriate cooling and has high space utilization efficiency. SOLUTION: Blowers 6A and 6B are provided on either of front surface and side surface of a rack case 7 to feed air to the inside of the case from the outside thereof, and a blower 6C is provided on the other to feed air to the outside of the case from the inside thereof. Among parts comprising an optical transmission unit 2 and parts comprising power supply units 5A and 5B, only parts generating heat are arranged in a cooling air passage that is formed by the blowers 6A, 6B and 6C inside the rack case 7.
