PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for applying a primer liquid on a base material in which the sticking of lint on the primer layer and the remaining of an excess primer component are easily suppressed. SOLUTION: The coating apparatus fo a coating liquid has a coating zone for applying at least the primer liquid, a cleaning zone to clean the base material after coating and a mechanism for transporting the base material in each zone and between the zones. The cleaning zone has a mechanism for removing the primer component not bonded to the base material and/or the lint and the mechanism has a water supply mechanism and a cleaning mechanism having a cleaning pad in which a sponge having sponge hardness of 1-20 or a cleaning mechanism having a disk brush having≤300μm wire diameter and comprising a material having hardness of 1-2.5 in 10 stage Mohs hardness.
