PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen storage material which contains LiH (lithium hydride) and LiNH<SB>2</SB>(lithium amide), wherein the peak temperature when hydrogen is released can be shifted to the low temperature side and the hydrogen storage material is obtained at a low cost. SOLUTION: The hydrogen storage material is composed of a mixture containing a metallic element supplying particle, a lithium hydride particle and a lithium amide particle to each of which mechanical energy is imparted in a mixed state so that these particles are joined to one another or particles of the same kind are joined to each other.
