A portable terminal apparatus confirms an image data transmission/reception method that a connected image forming apparatus can cope with and receives, from the image forming apparatus, information on a printable image format. Then, the portable terminal apparatus displays, on its screen, identifiable image data identification information that is stored together with the image data, and at the same time, the portable terminal apparatus determines whether or not each image data is printable. In the above, the determination is based on at least any one of the result of the confirmation of the transmission/ reception method, the image format information, and the image data. Based on the result of the determination, the portable terminal apparatus controls the display so that a user can identify whether or not each image data is printable. Of the image data selected by the user, the image data that is determined to be printable is transmitted to the image forming apparatus.
