<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizer and a liquid crystal display element that are manufactured on a large substrate in a short period of time, and also to provide a method for manufacturing a polarizer. <P>SOLUTION: A wire grid type polarizer 15 is constituted so that metal thin wires 14 produced by heat treatment of metal particles to be converted into thin wires are arranged parallel to one another in a cycle of ≤1 μm on a transparent substrate 17a. A liquid crystal substrate 19 includes two transparent substrates 17a, 17b sealed to sandwich a liquid crystal 16. A light guide plate 18 to introduce light from a light source 21 into the liquid crystal substrate 19 is placed in the back of the wire grid type polarizer 15. The light radiating from the light guide plate 18 is repeatedly reflected between the light guide plate and the wire grid type polarizer 15, and even polarized light with the polarization perpendicular to the transmission direction is finally transmitted and introduced into the liquid crystal substrate 19. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
