PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a neck-in formation method capable of performing the neck-in of a steel can used for applications of beverage, food or aerosol without generating wrinkles. SOLUTION: In the neck-in formation method for performing the neck-in of a cylindrical steel can with the diameter reduction ratio Rd of≥5% to≤8%, the length of an arc of a necking die from the form-starting point to the form-ending point is set to satisfy inequalities Lmin≤L≤Lmax, and Rd, Lmax and Lmin satisfy general formula (1), where Din denotes the outside diameter (mm) of the can before the neck-in formation, and Dout denotes the outside diameter (mm) of the can after the neck-in formation.
