PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a channel indication unit and a method therefor, performing appropriate channel indication so that output blackout is not produced before outputting a television picture after channel selection, by modifying a channel indication time on a layer-by-layer basis of the services currently received, and inhibiting a continued channel indication for a long time after the television picture is output. SOLUTION: The channel indication unit includes a layer identification means 1 for identifying each layer of the services currently received, and a channel indication means 2 for modifying the channel indication time on a layer-by-layer basis.
