PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image identification device capable of surely identifying only images of the same kind by matching determination even in such a case that registered image data includes large quantities of image data extremely similar to image data to be identified. SOLUTION: When it is determined that the number n2 of registered images GOi of identification candidates is not narrowed to 1 in first (common condition) pattern matching processing for calculating a similarity based on comparative differences of relative position between 7 reference mask positions P1-P7 set in each registered image G01 and maximum correlative positions Q1-Q7 detected in a collation image Gj in accordance therewith, second (individual condition) pattern matching processing is executed for calculating the similarity based on comparative differences of relative position between two image parts K1 and K2 set in the registered image G0i and two maximum correlative parts I1 and I2 detected in the collation image Gj in accordance therewith. When similarity to individual identification condition information of the registered image G0i is determined, this registered image is matching-determined (identified) as an image of the same kind as the collation image Gj.
