PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rack for an optical pickup transfer mechanism by which a difference of loads to a feed motor by a difference of transfer directions of the optical pickup is reduced and the transfer of the optical pickup is smoothly performed. SOLUTION: The rack 8 comprises a main frame 8a, a tooth base 8b having a tooth part 8d and a hinge 8c which connects the main frame 8a and the tooth base 8b by holding them from both end sides of the tooth part 8d. Since the hinge 8c is held at both ends of it, a force by the rotation of a screw shaft applied to the rack 8 is not changed by a difference of rotating directions. Thus, the difference is hardly generated in loads of the feed motor by the difference of the transfer directions of the optical pickup. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
