PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a user from overlooking a necessary document in retrieving documents so as to enhance retrieval efficiency. SOLUTION: A document management apparatus comprises a file management information storage unit storing file management information related to files of data constituting a document to be a management object; and a document management information storage unit storing document management information related to a plurality of documents stored in the file management information storage unit in a sequence in specific order and also storing importance number information associated with each document and indicating the importance of the document. When displaying the documents onto a display unit in the order of the documents in a sequence in accordance with an instruction from an operation unit, the device switches over display periods of time for the documents in response to the importance numbers associated with the documents to be displayed.
