PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for alcoholysis of a 4,4-disubstituted-2-substituted-5(4H)-oxazolone (hereinafter simply referred to as a disubstituted azlactone) and to provide methods for producing optically active azlactones which are difficult to obtain by usual techniques and have an asymmetric quaternary carbon and an N-acylated-quaternary amino acid ester which is a ring opening compound thereof. SOLUTION: The method for producing the corresponding N-acylated-quaternary amino acid ester is carried out as follows. The disubstituted azlactone is subjected to the alcoholysis in the presence of a catalyst selected from a copper compound or a copper complex. The methods for producing the optically active disubstituted azlactone and the optically active N-acylated-quaternary amino acid ester comprise subjecting the disubstituted azlactone which is a racemic modification to the alcoholysis in the presence of an optically active ligand and the copper compound or the copper-optically active ligand complex.
