PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sterilize an outer surface of a packaging material uniformly and efficiently enough by forcibly filling the inside of a chamber with a hydrogen peroxide mist condensed by vaporizing a hydrogen peroxide (H<SB>2</SB>O<SB>2</SB>) water solution, and also by agitating the mist. SOLUTION: The sterilization of the packaging material is carried out by generating an air stream by compressed air within the chamber for applying the hydrogen peroxide mist condensed by vaporizing the hydrogen peroxide water solution to the surface of the packaging material by forcibly filling the inside of the chamber with the hydrogen peroxide mist by the air stream, and also by applying the hydrogen peroxide mist to the surface of the package material while agitating.
