PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evaluate the contacting characteristic between a wheel and a rail using measured shape data. SOLUTION: Tread shape data (a) of the wheel measured by a shape measuring device is converted into digital data (discrete data) having data intervals in a wheel thickness direction of less than 0.2 mm (b). By using the converted shape data and cross-sectional shape data measured by the shape measuring device, a contacting characteristic value between the wheel and the rail is calculated. Concretely, axial direction displace Xw of a wheel shaft and a roll angleϕw of the wheel shaft are changed to calculate a contact point between the wheel and the rail. As the characteristic value, a wheel radius and a contact angle at the contact point are calculated, and furthermore, an equivalent tread gradient is calculated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
