The security unit (100) has systems detecting an individual, in, at or on the vehicle. Operation of the vehicle by the individual is also detected. A test unit examines whether the individual is authorized to operate the vehicle. A processor transmits an appropriate information signal to an external receiver. Any relevant information derived from detection and testing, is stored in memory. Communication with a mobile telephone, the police or a security unit is enabled. A door seal (also claimed) incorporates a sensor. An independent claim is included for the corresponding method of protection.
