PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber capable of suppressing the peak value of the impact acceleration in the event of collision. SOLUTION: The shock absorber is composed of a cylinder part in cylindrical shape with one end opened and the other end closed, a seal part provided in a part inside the cylinder part located nearer the first end in such an arrangement as sealing the cylinder part from outside, a fluid filled in a sealed space formed in the cylinder part by the seal part, a piston installed slidably in the sealed space, and a rod penetrating axially the seal part slidably and with one side coupled with the piston and the other side protruding outside, wherein the inner surface of the cylinder part is tapered inside the sealed space so that the inside diameter lessens from the first end toward the other end, in such an arrangement that the tapering ratio lies in the range 1/50 to 1/130.
