PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more enhance a power saving effect in a power saving type television receiver. SOLUTION: A human detection sensor 7 such as a passive infrared sensor is attached in a freely turnably way on the front of the main body 2 of the television receiver 1 in the form of forming a sensing area in front of a liquid crystal display 3. When the human detection sensor 7 senses the absence of a viewer, a video image of the liquid crystal display 3 is immediately turned off. When a silence delay time elapses after the human detection sensor 7 senses the absence of the viewer, the sound of a speaker 5 is turned off. The silence delay time can be freely set by the viewer. Thus, when the viewer leaves the television receiver only for a short period of time, power saving can be realized without forcing the viewer to be troubled by the operation.
