PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of attaining frame transmission between terminals compatible with jumbo frames and terminals incompatible with the jumbo frames by extending an auto negotiation function in a frame transmission system wherein the terminals compatible with the jumbo frames and terminals incompatible with the jumbo frames are intermingly connected. SOLUTION: A communication apparatus 1 is configured to include: a table 6 for storing numbers of ports (PHY) to which terminals A, B are connected, addresses of the terminals A, B, and MTU (maximum transmission unit) values of the terminals A, B in cross-reference with each other; a transfer function section 5 for carrying out transfer processing of frames between the terminals A, B; and a control section 4 comprising a processor or the like with a function that controls the transfer function section 5, obtains the MTU values of the terminals A, B by the auto negotiation between the terminals A, B, and informs a transmission source terminal about the MTU value of a destination terminal when the MTU value of the sender terminal is greater than the MTU value of the destination terminal.
