PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device vertically slidable on the frames of a ladder and a stepladder, fixedly storable in the frames during storage and transportation and opened to the side when used to fixedly touch the ground and increase a non-turnover range. SOLUTION: A supporting device 5 comprises a support 3 pivotally fitted thereto and vertically slides on the surface of the frame 1. While the ladder and the step ladder are stored and transported, the supporting device 5 is raised upward. At the same time, an auxiliary support 4 comes into the support 3 and its lower part comes into the side of the frame 1, and the supporting device 5 is fixed to the frame 1 at its upper end for convenience. When the ladder and the stepladder are used, the supporting device 5 is loosened and lowered downward. At the same time, the lower part of the journalled support 3 is opened to the side and brought into contact with the ground.
