METHOD OF MANUFACTURING FULLERENES

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of improving yield in the manufacture of fullerenes. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing the fullerenes by arc discharge using a carbon electrode, the temperature of a cooling liquid for cooling a reaction chamber for forming the fullerenes is controlled to 40-60°C. An arc discharge type apparatus for manufacturing the fullerenes is provided with: the carbon electrode; a means for energizing the alectrode; a reaction chamber; and a cooling means for cooing the reaction chamber with the cooling liquid; and also a means for controlling the temperature of the cooling liquid to 40-60°C.
