PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device capable of reducing a space of a hoistway in the height direction. SOLUTION: In this elevator device, a car 1 and a balance weight 12 suspended by a rope 5 are driven by a winding machine 10 within hoistway walls. The elevator device is provided with: a suspension wheel 8 arranged above the car 1; a rope stopper part 4 arranged in an upper part or a side part of the car 1; a suspension wheel 13 arranged in an upper part of the balance weight 12; and a rope stopper part 15 arranged in an upper part of the balance weight 12. The elevator is so structured that the vertical projection of the winding machine 10 is positioned between the vertical projection of the car 1 and that of the hoistway walls 18.
