PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device which can efficiently use memory thereof during fallback processing. SOLUTION: The recording device is provided with an image generating means for generating image data from data input from the outside. The image generating means analyzes a command, stores a result of the analysis in an intermediate buffer, followed by rendering the data stored in the intermediate buffer and storing the same in an image buffer 4. The recording device comprises a control means operable when all the result of the analysis for one page, generated by the command analysis cannot be stored in the intermediate buffer, for dividing the image data into a plurality of pieces and carrying out the command analysis and the rendering for a plurality of times, and a determining means for determining whether or not a band to be processed should be subjected to superimposing processing. If the band should be subjected to the superimposing processing, the image data is stored into the image buffer by setting a width to a rendering output width.
