The exhaust gas turbocharger has a diffuser wall (24) which is adjustable between the effective flow cross-section in the diffuser (21) reducing minimum position and the flow cross-section releasing the maximum position whereby the diffuser wall is axially adjustable. An independent claim is also included for the method for operating the exhaust gas turbocharger.
