PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent light leakage produced in a rubbing alignment method by using an electric field or a magnetic field to set an alignment direction of an alignment layer without physical contact with a substrate in a method of forming the alignment layer for a liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: The method of forming the alignment layer for the liquid crystal display is equipped with the steps of: preparing the substrate 100; depositing the alignment layer 200 containing a compound expressed by a formula (1) (in the formula, n is a positive integer, R1 is preferably an alkyl group or a benzene ring containing group, and R2 is preferably an amine containing group or a group containing a benzene ring and an ether group) on the substrate for the purpose of initial aligning of a liquid crystal; and applying the electric field or the magnetic field to the substrate with the alignment layer deposited thereon to set an alignment direction of the alignment layer.
