<p>The invention relates to a device for softening skins by shearing comprising a unit consisting of two mirror-likely arranged multi-plate matrix blocks one of which is mounted on the top section of the body of a main hydraulic engine and the other on the end of the rod thereof. The inventive method for softening a skin piece pressed between said multi-plate matrixes consists in exposing said skin piece to a continuous action of shearing forces applied during a determined number of periods at different angles.</p>
