SCENE CHANGE DETECTING APPARATUS AND METHOD THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scene change apparatus and method available when motion information within a video frame is not significant like the case of contrast improvement.

SOLUTION: The scene change detecting apparatus is provided with: first and second frame buffers for saving two of video frame data The scene change detecting apparatus is provided with: first and second frame buffers for saving two of video frame data for detecting whether or not a scene is changed; first and second color space converting parts for outputting prescribed chrominance signals by applying color space conversion to the signals saved in the first and second frame buffers; first and second histogram detecting parts for calculating histograms with respect to the prescribed chrominance signals converted by the first and second color space converting parts; a cross correlation coefficient calculating part for calculating a correlative value between the first histogram calculated by the first histogram detecting part and the second histogram calculated by the second histogram detecting part; and a judging part for outputting a scene change signal by comparing the value calculated by the cross correlation coefficient calculating part with a prescribed critical value.
