PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern recognition technology for recognizing a complicatedly deformed object such as a non-rigid object with higher accuracy. SOLUTION: This pattern recognition device has a registered image data input section 11 inputting registered image data; a register preprocessing section 12 normalizing an object image; a register feature amount extracting section 13 extracting a feature amount from a normalized image; a register distribution preparing section 15 preparing distribution by totaling and vectorizing the feature amount in a window to plot into a feature space while setting a search window and allowing the window to scan the image; main component vector computing section 16 making a main component analysis of distribution to compute a main component vector; a recognized image data input section 17 inputting recognized image data; a recognition preprocessing section 18 normalizing an input image; a recognition feature amount extracting section 19 for extracting a feature amount from the normalized image; a recognition distribution preparing section 20 preparing distribution in the same way; an identification section 21 computing similarity between the distribution and the main component vector and determining an identified result based on the similarity; and an output section 22 outputting the identified result.
