PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method by which stable coating is carried out even when the coating speed is increased while decreasing the excess portion of a supply coating quantity to a required coating quantity to the utmost, in upper layer coating in the manufacture of a recording sheet provided with a color material receiving layer. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing the recording sheet which is carried out by applying and forming the color material receiving layer containing an inorganic fine particle and a water soluble resin on a continuously travelling belt like supporting body 12 supported to be wound on a backup roller 50 and next, applying and forming an upper layer on the incompletely dried color material receiving layer, the upper layer is formed on the surface of the supporting body 12 by forming beads 52 with the supporting body by the liquid cross-linking of a coating material discharged from the lip tip 48 of a coating head 42 on the surface of the supporting body 12. The coating material is applied on the surface of the supporting body 12 across the bead 52 while evacuating the upstream side of the beads 52 to be >0 kPa and≤2.0 kPa in the degree of vacuum to the atmospheric pressure by providing a suction chamber 54 in the upstream side of the coating head 42.
