PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device, which even in the case of an interlace signal which contains a conversion signal which is converted into an interlace by a 3-2 pull-down or 2-2 pull-down, and is subjected to an editing processing, can convert it into a progressive signal without image quality deterioration and properly, and to provide its method. SOLUTION: When a conversion signal portion, which is converted into the interlace by the 3-2 pull-down or 2-2 pull-down and is subjected to the editing processing, is converted into the progressive signal, a progressive conversion part 11 generates a field insertion interpolation signal and a motion adaptive interpolation signal, and detects a double image error in the field insertion interpolation signal in pixel units. As for a pixel which is judged to be the double image error, the pixel is replaced with the pixel at the same location in the motion adaptive interpolation signal; and when the pixel which is decided as being double image error reaches a predetermined threshold, all the subsequent pixels or lines are set to the motion adaptive interpolation signal.
