Several characteristics for the thin spread of ink are stored in a printing machine's control device. An associated thin-spread profile (ATSP) is calculated from these characteristics for each inking zone (IZ). Openings in the IZ and neighboring IZs are calculated for each IZ by referring to the ATSP. IZs calculated in this way are overlaid. An independent claim is also included for a device like a printing machine for carrying out the method of the present invention.
