METHOD OF INHIBITING ETHYLENE PRODUCTION IN PLANTS

Methods of inhibiting ethylene production in a plant are provided that involve contacting a plant or plant part with an inhibitor of 1-aminocyclopropane-l-carboxylic acid oxidase (ACCO). The methods can be used to delay fruit and vegetable ripening, flower opening, or senescence of cut flowers. Also described are kits including an ACCO inhibitor and a floral preservative.
