摘要 <p>The sensor provides the number and the speeds of vehicles surrounding the vehicle to be compared with references or threshold values. It uses a beam signal (4) to sense the side and front surrounds for objects or other vehicles. A receiver unit senses the reflected signals (5) from objects for angle of incidence and operating time. The sensed signals are passed for further processing to the processing logic (2). It converts the signals to speeds and object positions. The sensed relative positions, angles or curve signals are characterised for each driving situation to detect the type of road e.g. a motorway, country or town road. High speeds and long stretching curves indicating motorways, sharp curves and slow speeds indicating town traffic. Single parameters are weighted with each other. Distance dynamic rules and tracking software are tuned according to the road identification.</p>
