A collision detection apparatus for a vehicle includes an optical fiber (26) installed along a predetermined portion (10) of a vehicle, a light emitting element (32) disposed on a side of one end (27) of the optical fiber (26) to emit light into the one end (27), a reversing member (42) disposed on a side of the other end (28) of the optical fiber (26) to reverse direction of travel of light exiting from the other end (28) in order to introduce the exiting light into the other end (28), and a light receiving element (34) disposed on the side of the one end (27) of the optical fiber (26) to receive light emitted out of the one end (27) of the optical fiber (26).
