A method and an apparatus for transmitting sound of MP3 during a call in a mobile communication terminal are provided to enable even a user of an old terminal having no MP3 decoder to share and listen to a music of high-quality, which the other party is listening to, during the call through the other party's terminal having the MP3 decoder, thereby maximizing convenience about using the terminal. A user of a terminal having an MP3 decoder selects a menu for transmitting sound of MP3 while talking over the telephone with a called party(S110). By a switching process, MP3 data is switched into a transferable state(S120). While the user selects a music file and reproduces MP3 data, the sound of the MP3 is transmitted in real time(S130~S160). In the above first step, the called terminal is a terminal having no MP3 decoder. In the above second step, the MP3 data is switched so that both the user and the other party or only the other party can listen to the sound of the MP3.
