A method of updating firmware in a computer server system is disclosed which method includes disconnecting access from a south bridge (4) to a flash memory (5) when the system is in an operating state; writing updating firmware from a terminal (9) to the flash memory (5) via a base-board management controller (7); and thereafter, rebooting. Optionally, a second flash memory (5a) is provided along with a back-up base-board management controller (7a), and used to store the updated firmware whilst continuing access to the first flash memory (5).
