PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine in which washing power is improved by using detergent bubbles. SOLUTION: At the time of starting washing, water is supplied to a second predetermined water level lower than a first predetermined water level corresponding to the amount of laundry inside a water tub 3, and a rotary drum 5 is rotationally driven at a second rotation speed higher than a first predetermined rotation speed at the time of washing. For a water stream generated by the rotation of the rotary drum 5, a turbulent flow is generated by the side wall 20a of a water discharge groove 20 formed at the bottom part of the water tub 3, and the detergent bubbles are generated. Since the generated detergent bubbles enter from the opening part of the rotary drum 5 and stick to the laundry, by rotationally driving the rotary drum 5 at the second predetermined rotation speed, the detergent bubbles are uniformly applied to the laundry and high washing power is added by the infiltration of a liquid detergent.
