A COMPETITIVE BINDING ASSAY FOR CELL SURFACE CHARGE

A method of determining cell membrane charge distribution wherein competitive binding between an unlabelled charged molecule and a labelled charged molecule is measured at three or more different ratios of labelled to unlabelled charged molecule is described. The method may be used for selecting pharmaceutical compositions which either specifically target or do not bind to the cell or population of cells of interest. In another embodiment of the invention, there is provided a method of changing the cell membrane charge distribution such that pharmaceuticals can be targetted to or excluded from the treated population of cells.
