Pre-impregnated carbon fiber layers are superimposed to form a base skin (1). One or more reinforcing layers (9) of carbon fiber prepreg, are located and formed on individual U-section plungers (5). These have rounded edges and their lengths, heights and internal widths correspond with dimensions of the U-shaped stiffeners (2) to be manufactured. Longitudinal edges of the layers are turned down (13) over the height of the plungers, forming rib halves (3a, 3b) of the reinforcing ribs. - The plungers are located side-by-side in inverted-U formation. An approximately triangular section (4) or head, is located between the two descending edges (13) which face each other. The entire assembly is compacted, and then inverted through 180 deg. .
