[Also in Division F4] Fluid, e.g. a gas, passing through a duct 32 receives heat from a tube 31 comprising a nuclear fuel element. The fluid flows to the duct by way of inlet tubes 34 and longitudinally extending channels 35 (see also Fig. 7, not shown) each having an open side sealed against a layer 33 of sintered metal or other porous material which covers the tube 31. The fluid can therefore enter the duct 32 only by way of the capillary channels in the porous layer 33 (see arrows) and is heated as it passes through these channels. |
