1,015,041. Setting out elevator guide rails. INVENTIO A. G. March 11,1963 [March 28,1962], No. 9478/63. Heading G1F An elevator guide rail having an end face 1.3, Fig. 3, and two guide surfaced 1.1, 1.2, at right angles thereto and supported from a shaft wall 3 by a series of spaced fixing elements 2 is accurately set up by a pair of vertical wires 5, 6, and a sighting device 13. The wires 5, 6, are accurately spaced apart at the top of the shaft and define the plane in which face 1.3 is to be located and also one wire 6 is at a predetermined distance from the plane of symmetry 4 of the guide rail when in its correct position. The plate 13 is placed so that surfaces 13.12, 13.11 contact faces 1.1,1.3, of the rail at a point where it is supported by a fixing element 2, and nuts 2.3 and claws 2.4 of the latter are adjusted until wire 6 is on the sighting line 13.33 defined by a pair of sight 13.31, 13.32 whilst wires 5, 6 are on the sighting line 13.23 defined by sights 13.21 and 13.22. The operation is then repeated at succeeding fixing elements 2. In an alternative form, Fig. 4, an image of wires 5, 6, is produced for observation in eye-piece 19 against a scale plate 18 when a prism 25 is in the full line position so that face 1.3 may be positioned in the correct plane defined by wires 5, 6. When prism 25 is rotated to the dotted line position so that a stop 25.1 is removed from the optical path through lens 20 and prism 27, an image of wire 6 is obtained viewed in a perpendicular position so that the correct distance of the centre of face 1.3 from wire 6 may be obtained.
