PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for controlling a temperature of a PCR reaction liquid, adopting a temperature controlling procedure capable of sharply shortening times required for conducting "temperature raising/temperature lowering" operations between each of processes, when a temperature of the reaction liquid is changed according to a heat cycle comprising a "denature process"→an "annealing process"→an "extension process" of PCR reaction. SOLUTION: This apparatus for controlling the temperature of the PCR reaction liquid uses a heating and cooling part which adopts a heat exchange procedure by heat conduction as a heating and cooling means of the reaction liquid and adopts a temperature setting program by which a temperature of the heating and cooling part is set to a temperature higher than a temperature of the "denature process", a temperature lower than a temperature of the "annealing process", and a temperature higher than a temperature of the "extension process", when the "temperature raising/temperature lowering" operations between each of the processes are conducted, so that a time required for raising a temperature to the "denature process" temperature, a time required for lowering a temperature to the "annealing process" temperature, and a time required for raising a temperature to the "extension process" temperature are each sharply shortened.
