Gripping pliers comprise an upper jaw (1) and a lower jaw (4), each jaw being integrally joined to a gripping shank (3, S). The lower jaw (4) is swivellingly mounted in a single joint (5) which can be adjusted along a longitudinal adjustment device (2) arranged between the upper jaw (1) and its gripping shank (3) in order to adjust different jaw openings. The mutually facing clamping sides (9, 10) of the jaws (1, 4) comprise a front clamping region and a clamping recess (14, 17) delimited by two clamping flanks (15, 16, 18, 19) arranged so as to form an obtuse angle with one another. At least 40 % (L1) of the adjustment length (L2) of the single joint (5) lie outside of a right angle (W2) applied to the upper end of the front clamping flank (15) of the upper jaw (1). A plane (20) that contains the front clamping flank (15) of the upper jaw (1) forms an angle (W3) of less than 65° with the extension (7) of the longitudinal adjustment device (2) of the single joint (5). |
