The invention relates to a method of writing a piece of information (DB) in a memory unit (MD), during which X images of the information are stored in a set of X zones (P1 to PX) in accordance with a direction of writing which was previously stored in the memory unit (MD). The invention also relates to an associated reading method comprising the following steps: E1) reading a previous direction of writing (S-); E2) reading X image values (D1 to DX); E3) comparing the X image values (D1 to DX); E4) determining the information (DB) from the result of the comparison and the previous direction of writing and, subsequently, storing an updated direction of writing (S). The invention is suitable for memory cards.
