PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silica-coated mixed crystal oxide particle which is covered with a dense and practical silica film and has improved dispersibility and transparency, a method for economical production thereof, and also to provide a cosmetic for ultraviolet shielding good in dispersion of the above particle, particularly excellent in transparency and storage stability. SOLUTION: There are provided a silica-coated mixed crystal oxide particle in which the surface of the mixed crystal oxide particles having BET specific surface area of 10-200 m<SP>2</SP>/g and containing primary particles in a mixed crystal state is covered with a dense and thin film silica, and its production method.
