The encoding method comprises correcting a rough estimate of a generated code
quantity (ROUGH PRED(n)) predicted from input image data (D1), with a
correction coefficient (ADJUST(n)) thereby to calculate a true predicted code
quantity (TRUE PRED(n)), and encoding the input image data (D1) on the basis
of the true predicted code quantity (TRUE PRED (n)), thereby to generate the
correction coefficient (ADJUST(n)) of a corresponding picture type, with an
actual generated code quantity (BIT(n)).
