<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new microorganism carrying out denitrification using nitrate ions contained in wastewater, etc., as a substrate and to provide especially the new microorganism carrying out the denitrification under medium high temperature conditions. <P>SOLUTION: The new microorganism belonging to the genus Geobacillus and having the ability to produce N<SB>2</SB>gas using the nitrate ions as the substrate is found out as a result of isolation and identification of the objective microorganism using soil, rivers or active sludge as a separation source.
